Small Claims Cases
The purpose of a small claims court is to allow individuals to settle disputes involving small amounts of money, usually up to a maximum of $12,500. Small Claims courts do not require the assistance of an attorney (each party represents themselves) and they do not have a jury present. The simplified procedures and rules of evidence make small claims courts more accessible to the general public. The primary goal of small claims court is give individuals a way to efficiently resolve disputes without extensive trials and costly procedures.
